M. and I recently visited the Icosium Kafe, an Algerian-French cafe on 5200 N. Clark Street in Andersonville (according to their website, they have another location on 2433 N. Clark as well). We've had crepes in Chicago before, but we hadn't found anything comparable to the crepes we've had in France, so when M. saw Icosium Kafe on the local PBS show Check, Please!, he was intrigued by this Algerian version of a French specialty. The service at Icosium was pleasant and attentive without being in the least over-bearing, the atmosphere warm and lively as the dining room filled up, and the food was excellent. That's about all you can hope for, right? The crepes themselves were soft and tasty, unlike some of the rather dry, bland incarnations we've had in Chicago, and the fillings...wow. I had the Icosium Crepe with Algerian lamb sausage, which was bursting with fresh veggies and spicy meat.
If Icosium is too far off your radar, Flip Crepes at the Chicago French market (closer to the Loop) is another great choice. Their crepes are huge, flavorful, and, like Icosium, stuffed with fresh fillings.
